Nationals Win, 10-9, at Cincinnati
|
The Washington Nationals overcame a fine performance by Cincinnati designated hitter J.D. Martinez to defeat the Reds, 10-9, at Great American Ball Park. Martinez was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. Reliever Craig Kimbrel picked up the win. His record improves to 5-7. Dylan Bundy took the loss. Jose Alvarado was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 7 save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Washington, had it not been for Ramon Laureano, the 27-year old center fielder . Laureano contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the second inning to put Washington up, 3-1.
"We got the victory," said Laureano. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
With the win, the Nationals have a record of 80-74.
