A E News: The Offseason Begins
Sunday, October 10th , 2021
The cathedrals of baseball are silent. Another Low-A East season is in the books, and what a season it was! The champion has been crowned and the winners sent home to decorate their trophy cases. The fans have been left with many exciting memories to recall over the offseason. League awards will be announced over the coming weeks, but while players head for vacations and the ballparks are empty, there is plenty going on behind the scenes.

The offseason is a time for baseball's front office gurus to turn their attention to getting key players under contract, making financial decisions, and laying the groundwork for next year's campaign.

You may now vote for the league award winners, the option is available in the league menu.
Lynchburg Crowned Champions
Friday, October 8th , 2021
Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.

It was the latter case in 2021, as the Lynchburg Hillcats topped the Columbia Fireflies 8-4 tonight at Bank of the James Stadium to win the Round 2. It was the 1st title in franchise history.

"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Lynchburg third baseman Jim Unknown, who was named series MVP.

The Hillcats took the series 4-3. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Northern Division and a 68-52 record.

Lynchburg manager grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Unknown's words.

"Jim said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.

Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
Columbia Advances to Round 2
Tuesday, September 28th , 2021
The Columbia Fireflies triumphed 6-2 over the Down East Wood Ducks at Segra Park in the Round 1 to capture it 4-2.

The victory advanced the Fireflies to the Round 2.

For his superb play in the series, Fireflies catcher Jim Unknown garnered the series MVP trophy, hitting .500, scoring 0 runs and batting in 1.

"Only thing better than getting MVP for winning in the playoffs would be winning MVP for winning in the Round 2," Unknown said later. "I'll get to work on that."

The Columbia Fireflies will play against the Lynchburg Hillcats in the next round. Lynchburg had a bye in the Round 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
